Tickets are now on sale for the off-Broadway premiere of comedian Desiree Burch’s solo show Tar Baby. Directed by Isaac Byrne and written by Burch and Dan Kitrosser, Tar Baby begins performances January 5 at off-Broadway’s DR2 Theatre. The show is scheduled to play a limited engagement through January 19.
Tar Baby tells the story of America’s black and white love affair from shotgun weddings to “post-racial” relationships. Speaking to a growing majority of minority experiences in America, Tar Baby weaves games, audiences, laughter and insight into an interactive carnival of race and capitalism—where no one’s a winner, but everyone’s still playing! In addition to Burch, Tar Baby features Nicole Vernarec.
Burch’s stage credits include Full Body Quotation and her solo show 52 Man Pickup. She has appeared on film in Maya’s Soul, Overtime, The Losers, PBnJ Beckett and Bodybuilder Island.
Tar Baby includes scenic and lighting design by Joshua Rose, costume design by Tricia Bastian and sound design by Mark Van Hare.
